There’s a pretty solid rumor going around the neighborhood that The Door will be moving into the Tearoom’s old space. This is a good move for The Door since their current location down on the East end of Elm segregates them off from the rest of the night life scene. After the move they’ll be down in the mix of things and i’m sure the residents at Continental Gin and the other lofts will appreciate the peace.
The Door is an interesting place. The Door is a thriving all-ages venue situated away from the heart of Deep Ellum. It’s a scene in and of itself and more importantly a demonstration of power posessed by younger ( < 21 ) music fans. I’ve always held that the importance of the 16-20 age group fanbase is under appreciated. If you’re reading this then you probably started coming down to Deep Ellum when you were a teen and now share so much history with the neighborhood you’re working to save it. It’s not a major mental feat to realize that the kids today are going to be the ones watching over Deep Ellum in 10 years.
Don’t roll your eyes at the thought of The Door in the Tearoom’s space cause of all the “kids running around”. They are the future.
