Currently Deep Wireless has two nodes running (sporadically) as the wireless network “FREEDEEP”. This started a while ago when printelectric inherited three very expensive mesh wireless boxes and hooked them up for the hell of it. This configuration has worked fairly well and around 50 people are utilizing it off and on. But the boxes are expensive, a bit difficult to configure so expansion has been halted by our budget.

We recently heard from a small local organization DFWFreeNet with a pretty slick solution that we are going to utilize and promote across the neighborhood. Instead of expensive big boxes, DFWFreeNet utilizes small, inexpensive units (around $50) to spread the wireless mesh.
So, what we intend to do is:
• Test these boxes and the administrative functions
• Utilizes the existing large antennas to duplicate the existing “FREEDEEP” network
• Encourage people to hook onto the network with DFWFreeNet’s technology
Obviously we will need your help with that last part. What we are looking for are people who wouldn’t mind sharing a predetermined amount of bandwidth. The technology locks down the line so people outside cannot see your network or take all your bandwidth.
Information on DFW Free Net can be found here.
Information on the hardware can be found here.
And if you are interested in participating and serving up a portion of your existing bandwidth, email me at lambrettista@gmail.com. Include the type of connection, your address and if you have roof access.
Thanks!
