Some of you may be not be familiar with architect/artist Douglas Leon Cartmel. He is a Deep Ellum resident and a principal at Ellum Consulting who submitted a proposal for the DART Deep Ellum Gateway Project. Unfortunately, his project was not selected, but we thought we’d show you an example of the high caliber of work submitted by a Deep Ellum artist.
Other Deep Ellum artists overlooked by DART include Brian Gibb of Art Prostitute and Frank Campagna. The DART Gateway committee, whoever they are, ended up going with an artist from Vancouver who brazenly called Campagna and asked for his advice. There were four other artists selected in March 2007 and of course we still don’t know who they are and the Deep Ellum Gateway is in our neighborhood. If you ask me DART has done a very poor job of communicating with the neighborhood. Care to weigh in on what DART has given us so far?
