This video is kind of hard to watch. I work in Deep Ellum and every day I used to have a set routine of exiting Live Oak and taking the Good Latimer tunnel into the neighborhood. My once exciting and fun drive to work is now a hell of detours and confused morning commuters.
That tunnel was more than just a part of the morning drive, it meant so much more. In high school when I first started coming to Deep Ellum from my nice quiet Plano neighborhood, seeing that tunnel was when I really felt like the night beginning. My heart would start pumping and a smile would cross my face. Well it’s gone now, no more smile, no more happy morning commutes. Thanks DART, thanks for killing one of Dallas’ greatest icons.
Word on the street right now is that Frank Compagna is working on a new Deep Ellum Mural Competition. Stick around for more information, as I will post it as I learn more.
