Savedeepellum.org came up for renewal, so took a peek at the stats while I was on the ISP’s page and they are very respectable. You can see 2007’s stats ramp up and 2008’s have continued to rise on the same trajectory. The page views are really strong and analyzing the stats, people are obviously utilizing this for informational purposes, which was it’s intent.
But some people have been making rumblings about “Save Deep Ellum” being too desparate a plea. At the time it, like it or not, I thought it was relevant, no one was doing anything better (or at all).
My take is: Just looking at all the events posted up here, we can see that there is a vibrance that is emerging but hasn’t come to full blossom. Also, working from the Ogilvy Advertising rulebook the phrase was spot-on in disseminating the point-of-view in as few words as possible without any chance of misinterpretation. In addition, it’s has that fuck you punk rock aftertaste, which is oh-so Deep Ellum. And my hope is to see it morphing into an ironic rally cry like “Defend Brooklyn”.
I would be very interested in you guys’ comments as to whether Save Deep Ellum as outlived it’s usefulness and should be changed? This would also be a good opportunity for some of the lurking critic’s to weigh in – or forever hold your peace.
Thanks!
