I guess reporting anything good, bad or indifferent on Deep Ellum has gone out of vogue by the local press, so I’ll post up the shitty news. I heard from Sean a while ago and now Elm Street Bar & Darkside are both closed ‘fer good. I was a bit freaked earlier because the Rockers vs Mods event had some bands playing, but that is trivial next to the greater loss to the neighborhood. Elm Street Bar was always mean enough to weed out the frat boys, but cool enough that you didn’t have some 90-year-old hag trying to pick you up. Much more than that, it was an anchor during the good times and stubborn as hell through the bad and the oldest bar in Deep Ellum.
The details were a bit fuzzy, but judging by it seems like they just ran out of funds. I am speculating but probably a combination of fighting the SUPs, low attendance to shows and blocking off the streets all took their toll.
It’s looking like the Rockers vs Mods Saturday Night event will be at Lee Harvey’s. I want to thank Kaz for lending us a hand.
