SELECTION PROCESS:
Judges will evaluate artist’s submissions and either select an artist based on preliminary submission materials, interview short-listed applicants, or seek more detailed proposals. Selection criteria include: the applicant’s professional qualifications, ability to undertake the project, ability and experience and artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials. The artist(s) selected for the commission will be further required to develop the proposal for the approval by the review panel prior to the fabrication and installation phase. The artist selected will sign a waiver with the proposed site property owners. Judging panel members include artists, arts advocates and professionals, and a representative from the Deep Ellum Association.

MURAL REVIEW CRITERIA

• artistic quality - strength of the artist’s concept and demonstrated capability
• context - architectural, geographical, socio-cultural and historical, people places and or events
• scale - appropriateness of scale to the surrounding neighborhood
• diversity - race, age, style, media, experimentation, range of professional experience
• originality - uniqueness
• community support – general support/advocacy from building owner/user, surrounding neighborhood, adjacent businesses, and arts community.
