Dear Friends
As property owners and residents of Deep Ellum we are committed to the continued development and vitality of the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood. The Pearlstone Building a former grain elevator which was abandoned in 1959 poses both an obstacle to traditional development, but a unique opportunity for redevelopment. This building represents both the history and the future and how we as a neighborhood incorporate our past in the redevelopment of Deep Ellum.
The primary problem has been confusion over exactly what and how TXDOT would allow the property owner Jim Rogers to do with the building. You can help by emailing members of city council and requesting that they renew the amendment for as long as possible. On the Wednesday, August 13, 2008 it is slated to go before the Dallas City Council and is described on the agenda as an Amendment to the Deep Ellum/Near East Side Special Provision Sign District that allows wallscape signs to be placed on buildings greater than 80 ft. in height. We encourage and appreciate the efforts of the City of Dallas to allow wallscape on the Pearlstone Building in Deep Ellum to make redevelopment of the Pearlstone Building possible.
Our support for the Pearlstone wallscape proposal is unwavering. We need your help to get approval from City Council for the wallscape ordinance and request that you write a letter to members of the City Council of the City of Dallas to approve the Wallscape Ordinance in Deep Ellum Seciton 51A-7.1306(f) of the Dallas Development Code.
