The Swiss Avenue Historic District 33rd Annual Mother’s Day Tour of Homes // May 10 - 11, 2008
Home & Gardens tour that will take place Mother’s Day weekend. The event will highlights will include live music and entertainment in Savage Park throughout the weekend, a parade down Swiss Avenue on Saturday at Noon, and a spectacular Mother’s Day Brunch in Savage Park on Sunday 10AM - 1PM. Reservations are not required, but recommended. Catering will be provided by Metro Grill all weekend and Champagne for Brunch on Sunday will begin at 11:30AM. The hours of the tour is Saturday, May 10, 2008 10AM - 6PM // Sunday, May 11, 2008 Noon - 6PM.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Judges will evaluate artist’s submissions and either select an artist based on preliminary submission materials, interview short-listed applicants, or seek more detailed proposals. Selection criteria include: the applicant’s professional qualifications, ability to undertake the project, ability and experience and artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials. The artist(s) selected for the commission will be further required to develop the proposal for the approval by the review panel prior to the fabrication and installation phase. The artist selected will sign a waiver with the proposed site property owners. Judging panel members include artists, arts advocates and professionals, and a representative from the Deep Ellum Association.

Recent works by north Texan sculptor Will Johnson and local landscapist Katie Maratta. Johnson’s sculptures of found objects and materials resonate with archetypal simplicity and humor with various medias like wire and cement. Maratta’s art work consists of a black & white panoramic of Texas landscapes, an image transferred onto a white-painted wood and enhanced by pen & ink. Make sure to check out the 2008 Green Apple Festival from April 18-20. The festival is to raise awareness of green living and will have shows at 10 different venues, culminating with a free party at Fair Park on April 20th. Hit the link for showtimes, venues and more information.
EarthFest is an annual celebration held in downtown in honor of Earth Day. This event will have over 70 environmental exhibits including mass transit, recycling, gardening, hybrid technology, artists, and much more. Entertainment will include a recycled fashion show and many musical performers. This event will start at 10:00 am and will be held at Pegasus andAT&T Plazas.
The City of Dallas is looking for volunteers to help set-up and to help staff EarthFest. On Thursday, April 17th, we will we will need people from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM to help set up tables. On Friday, April 18th, we need volunteers from 9:00 AM until 2:30 PM. There are many positions such as setting up, operating the command center, distributing drinks, helping vendors, manning the barricades, operating city sales, and helping tear down.
The actual event goes from 10:00 am until 2:00 PM. We ask that all people who plan to participate volunteer for two hour blocks. Volunteers can participate for more than two hours if they would like.
